Agentforce Pricing 2026: What It Really Costs (And How to Avoid Surprise Bills)

AI agents are now one of the most talked-about parts of Salesforce. They can answer customers late at night, help your sales team prep for meetings, and take boring, repeat jobs off your team's plate.

So it's no surprise that the first question most business owners ask: what will it cost?

The good news is that Agentforce can cost less than you might think. Salesforce gives you a few different ways to pay, so you can pick the one that matches how you'll actually use it.

In this guide, we'll walk you through each option in plain words, show you real cost examples, and share easy ways to get the most value for your money.

The short answer: most businesses pay about 10 cents each time the agent does a task, like looking up an order or updating a record. So a chat where the agent does three tasks costs about 30 cents. If the agent is for your own staff, you can also pay a flat monthly fee per person instead.

The 3 Ways to Pay for Agentforce

Think of it like paying for a taxi. You can pay per kilometre, pay a fixed fare per trip, or rent the car for the month. Agentforce works the same way.

1. Pay per action (Flex Credits)

This is the option Salesforce pushes most today. You buy credits in packs of 100,000 for $500. Every time the agent does something, it uses 20 credits, which works out to 10 cents.

What counts as "doing something"? Looking up a customer. Checking an order. Pulling an answer from your help articles. Updating a case.

What's free? Handing the chat over to a human, and moving between topics. You only pay for real work.

Voice is a little pricier. A voice action costs 15 cents instead of 10.

Good for: customer chats on your website, in your Salesforce Service Cloud inbox, or on WhatsApp.

2. Pay per solved chat (Help Agent)

Here you pay $2 only when the agent solves the problem without passing it to a person. If the chat goes to your team, you pay nothing for it.

Sounds fair, right? Mostly. But watch the fine print. If a customer chats a couple of times, gives no feedback and just closes the window, Salesforce counts that as solved. That's $2.

Good for: teams who can't guess how busy the agent will be and want a fixed price per result.

3. Pay per person (user licenses)

This one is for agents your staff use, not your customers. Think of a sales rep asking the agent to prep for a meeting.

Option

Price

What you get

Agentforce User License

$5 per user / month

Access for staff, but every action still uses credits

Sales or Service add-on

$125 per user / month

Unlimited use for that person

Industry add-ons

$150 per user / month

Unlimited use plus industry features

Max Edition

From $550 per user / month

Full Salesforce cloud, the add-on, and 2.75 million credits a year for your company

Quick rule: if one person runs more than about 1,200 actions a month (roughly 55 a working day), the $125 plan is cheaper. Below that, stick with $5 plus credits.

There's also a fourth option: $2 per conversation, no matter how many actions the agent takes. It only works out cheaper if your chats need more than 20 actions each, which is rare. And you can't use it alongside pay per action in the same Salesforce account, so pick one.

What Will You Actually Pay? Real Examples

Numbers make this easier. Let's say you run an online store and use an AI agent for customer support.

A normal chat goes like this: the agent finds the customer, checks the order, and answers the question. That's 3 actions. A busier chat might add a refund and a case update, so 5 actions.

For the "pay per solved chat" option, we'll assume the agent solves 6 out of 10 chats on its own.

Chats per month

Pay per action (3 actions)

Pay per action (5 actions)

5,000

$1,500

$2,500

$6,000

20,000

$6,000

$10,000

$24,000

See the gap? For the same 5,000 chats, one option costs $1,500 and the other costs $6,000.

Pay per action stays cheaper until a chat needs about 12 actions. Very few support chats need that many. So for most teams, pay per action wins.

The math you can do yourself: chats per month × actions per chat × $0.10. That's your monthly agent cost.

The Costs Nobody Mentions Upfront

The agent itself is cheap. The surprises usually come from everything around it. Here's what to plan for.

1. Your Salesforce plan comes first. Agentforce needs an Enterprise-level plan or higher. In September 2026, Salesforce brought in three new plans, and each one now comes with a yearly pool of credits for your company: Core at $195 per user per month (500,000 credits), Advanced at $395 (1 million credits) and Max at $550 (2.75 million credits). If you're on a smaller plan, the upgrade may be your biggest cost. If you're already on one of these, use up your included credits before buying more.

2. Unused credits disappear. Credits you prepay for don't carry over to next year. Buy too many and you lose the extra. Buy too few and you just pay the same rate for the rest, with no penalty.

3. Messy data costs you twice. If your customer records are full of duplicates or old details, the agent takes extra steps to find the right answer. Extra steps mean extra actions, and extra actions mean a bigger bill. Good Salesforce data migration and clean-up work pays for itself here.

4. Testing isn't free. Every test chat in a sandbox still uses credits, just slightly fewer (16 instead of 20). You'll test every time you change the agent, so budget for it.

5. Long agent paths add up. An agent that checks five things before answering costs 50 cents. One that checks two costs 20 cents. Same answer, different bill. How the agent is built really matters.

6. Setup work. Someone has to connect your systems, write the agent's instructions and test it. That's a one-time Salesforce implementation cost that sits outside the price list. If your data lives in other tools too, Salesforce API integration may be part of it.

7. A new charge is coming. Salesforce has said it will start charging credits each time an outside AI agent (like one built in another AI tool) reads or updates your Salesforce data. It's aimed at November 2026, the price hasn't been shared yet, and Salesforce has promised 30 days' notice. Your regular integrations aren't affected, but if you plan to connect other AI tools to Salesforce, keep some budget aside.

Which Option Fits Your Business?

Still not sure? Find yourself in the list below.

  • "We want to test the waters." Start with Salesforce Foundations. It's free on Enterprise plans and gives you a starter pack of credits for trying ideas out. When you go live, move to pay per action with no upfront commitment.
  • "We know roughly how many chats we get." Pay per action. Watch your usage for three months, then think about buying credits upfront for a better deal.
  • "We have no idea how busy it'll be." Pay per solved chat. It costs more, but unsolved chats are free and each solved one has a fixed price.
  • "Our sales team will use it all day." The $125 per user add-on. Heavy users get unlimited actions, and your Salesforce Sales Cloud team can use it freely without anyone counting.
  • "We're not on Salesforce yet." Be honest about the full cost. The agent is cheap, but the platform underneath isn't. A good Salesforce consulting partner can tell you if the move makes sense before you spend a dollar.

Before you pick, run through our Agentforce readiness checklist. It covers the data and setup checks that decide whether the agent pays off.

5 Ways to Keep Your Agentforce Bill Low

  1. Build lean agents. Fewer steps per chat means fewer actions. Ask your team to cut any lookup the agent doesn't really need.
  2. Let rules do the easy jobs. Sending a welcome email or routing a lead doesn't need AI. Regular automation is already included in your plan, so keep it for the simple stuff.
  3. Watch the Digital Wallet. It's Salesforce's free usage tracker. It shows which agent and which action is eating credits, and it can alert you before you run low.
  4. Don't overbuy. Since unused credits vanish, start with pay-as-you-go. Buy upfront only once you know your real numbers.
  5. Clean your data first. A tidy Salesforce Customer 360 view helps the agent find answers in fewer steps.

Quick FAQ

1. Is Agentforce included in Salesforce? Partly. Salesforce Foundations is free on Enterprise plans and higher, with a starter pack of credits for testing. Real everyday use is paid.

2. Can I switch pricing plans later? Yes, but it takes a contract change. You can't mix pay per action and the per-conversation plan in the same Salesforce account.

3. What happens if I run out of credits? Nothing breaks. Extra usage is billed at your normal rate the following month, with no penalty.

4. Is voice more expensive than chat? Yes. A voice action costs 15 cents compared with 10 cents for text.

5. Do I need a developer to set it up? For simple agents, a skilled admin can do a lot. For agents that connect to other systems or handle refunds and payments, it's worth bringing in experienced help. You can hire Salesforce developers for just the project, without adding to your full-time team.
